In 1997 he joined the Beijing Yan Huang hospital, the best and largest private TCM clinic in Beijing where he provided medical services for senior government officials. He was the health manager and magazine editor of the clinic and trained young therapists in acupuncture, massage and meditation. More than 30 of the best specialists in TCM, with the governments approval were practicing at the clinic. With them, Dr Li Xin enlarged his experience and deepened his understanding of Chinese Medicine.

During this time Dr Li Xin met one of his teachers, Professor Song Zuo Min, an expert in pediatrics and internal diseases. Professor Song was over 80, he had been a student of the most famous doctor in Beijing, Dr Kong Bo Hua, from the Kong Zi family. With Dr Song, Dr Li Xin learned the principle of tonifying Jing (essence), and regulating Qi by using light herbal dosages and light herbal tastes.

When I met Dr Li Xin in August of 2007 he had just founded the Shanghai Insight Ancient Chinese Medicine Training Center, in Shanghai China. I was one of his first Western student. The approach he taught me in Chinese medicine was much more intuitive than what I had learned in the States, looking at the body not as the sum of different parts but as a whole. He showed me how to access where the body’s imbalances lie and how through Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine to address it.

Dr Li Xin is not just a brilliant Doctor, he is also a humble servant to the people, just like the bare foot doctors of old. In 2005 he and fellow American born Doctor James Heinritz, who after traveling together to Tibet for retreat and meditation, saw the great need for medical assistance in the area. The two men upon returning to Beijing founded Dorje Association, a non-profit, non-religious, non-governmental organization which raises money to train doctors and staff hospitals in rural parts of China and Tibet.

I am greatly honored to have Dr Li Xin as a mentor. I am fortunate that he has a great command of the English language and is Computer savvy. While away from China I enjoy our conversations via Skype, discussing case studies and Chinese Medical concepts. On my yearly training missions to China I am lucky to be able to spend time studying with him and enjoying his company.

Dr Li Xin started studying Chinese Medicine at Beijing TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) University in 1988. While in school he became dedicated to the Study of the Ancient classics such as the Huang Di Nei Jing, a detailed encyclopedia of Chinese Medicine written over 2,000 years ago. Learning from the ancient books was a difficult task, not only because of the use of the old language, but mainly because of the metaphoric way the ancients used to express themselves. Ancient doctors had their own way to express their thoughts, and it is essential to understand the meaning hidden behind the words.

Dr Li Xin graduated with honors in 1993 and became a professor of TCM at a medical school in Juang Su province. He began practicing meditation and Tai Ji Chuan, teaching himself how to purify the spirit and open the channels.
